Bijli Mahadev Trek
Bijli Mahadev is a temple which has a" shiva lingam and is situated in the middle of a meadow with lush green forests in the vicinity. Located at an altitude of about 2438m , Bijli Mahadev is one of the most mystic and excellent temples in India.
For people of kullu valley this place is of prime religious and historic importance.As miraculous this place is , its name comes from the fact that a Shiva linga inside the temple is struck by a lightening and its broken into pieces. The priest later collects the broken pieces and joins them together with the help of butter acting as an adhesive.
Day 01: MANALI (2050 Mts.)
Arrive base camp, at Manali. The adjustment and adaptation to the new weather is done in the meantime. A place for temporary abode will be provided in hotel/guest house during winters (Dec-Mar).
Day 02: MANALI - NAGGAR – JANA – MATIKOCHAR (2200 Mts.) 4 Hrs.
The trek begins by traversing to the pictorial village Jana by jeeps. Advancing your way to jana one can get a load of cedar, pines, apple orchards and the enthralling and captivating view of snow clad peaks and valleys. The all-embracing view of Kullu valley can be seen from Matikochar, especially of Kullu town. During night in a clear weather it can be perceived as if there are two skies, one on the top of our head with twinkling stars and the second below with glimmering artificial lights. Camp at Matikochar near the forest hut.
Day 03: MATIKOCHAR – BIJLI MAHADEV ( 2460 Mts. ) – MANALI 3/4 HRS. TREK AND 3 HRS. DRIVE FROM CHANSARI VILLAGE
The benedict and enigmatic place as the name directs. The domicile where lightening (Bijli) strikes the Shiva linga inside the temple and breaks into pieces. The Shiva linga (Mahadev) is joined together and put up in a special occasion making use of Maakhan(butter). The stroke of lightning can be spotted on the walls of the temple. The place being extremely vivid and breathtaking as it is situated at the top most end of the Mathan hill. Cascading down to the Chansari village through the pine forest takes approximately one and a half hours and finally the trek ends. Drive to Manali and the program concludes.
